Our Floristry Philosophy
Colour, shape, scent, form, movement - flowers are the most inspiring materials to work with creatively. They lift us up, console us and comfort us. Their fleetingness makes them all the more precious, to remind us of the wonder of the seasons.
We respect the natural beauty of flowers and their power to connect us; we aim to reflect this in everything we do.
Origin
Our aim is always to use flowers and plants sourced locally from artisan growers who nurture their flowers and respect the environment. Locally grown flowers are beautiful, characterful and scented - a world away from mass produced imported flowers and their associated huge carbon footprint.
We also source from other UK suppliers when needs be.
Since 2021 we have also been growing flowers in our own cutting garden.
Process
Our working process is creative. We start with a client brief, a commission or site visit and follow design principles to produce florals - or garden projects - that are completely bespoke, in consultation with our clients.
Following the seasons, we are constantly inspired and led by the natural world; by the shifting colours, textures, scent and forms found in the changing varieties of flowers and plants growing through the year - that in gardens also offer so much to wildlife, too.
Values
We support and practise the kind of gardening and floristry thatβs in balance with the natural world, rather than harming it. This approach requires innovation and an openness to constant improvement, which we embrace. We consider sustainability in every aspect of our work.
Our Story
Studio Seapink was launched by Jenny Bell Harman in late 2019, but the inspiration and experience behind it developed over many years before. Following her degrees in Zoology and then Fine Art, Jenny worked as an artist and educator in communities, museums and galleries and fell in love with flowers while planning her own wedding in 2010. Following retraining, Jenny worked for some of the UKβs finest florists over several years. Built on an artistic approach and environmental concerns, Studio Seapink was finally born as a creative and sustainable floral studio, offering floral design for events, commissions and through workshops.
When Jenny began to grow her own flowers in 2021, a love of gardening and growing soon developed, too - particularly in relation to wellbeing and ecology. This has lead Jenny to complete RHS Level 2 certification and a traineeship with a Head Gardener; currently she continues to develop her knowledge whilst offering holistic gardening services since 2022.
βSea Pinks, also commonly known as Thrift, are wild coastal flowers that grow in an environment inhospitable to most plants. They flower despite salty air, poor soil and exposure to blasting winds - in fact they thrive there. These hardy wee flowers were enchanting to me as a little girl growing up by the sea, on the western Scottish island of Islay. I saw them blooming in places I could only dream of climbing to, as I ventured around the coves near my home. They were pink treasure to my young mind.
I now live again on the coast and Sea Pinks still inspire me. I hope to bring their wild, resilient and enchanting spirit with me on my journey with Studio Seapink.β
